Staying safe
Most members are honest, but we do not check posts. Please look after yourself and each other.
Jobs
- Never pay to get a job, or pay for training, uniforms or "registration" before you start.
- Ask for the business name and ABN, and check them on abr.business.gov.au.
- You should be paid at least the award or minimum wage, and get payslips. Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) can help if you are unsure.
Housing
- Do not send a deposit or bond before you have seen the place and met the person.
- In NSW, a bond must be lodged with NSW Fair Trading, and you should get a written agreement. Be careful if you are told to pay rent in cash with no receipts.
- If the price is far below other places nearby, it may be a scam.
Anonymous posts
- Some members post as "Anonymous member". That is allowed for privacy, but it also means you cannot tell who you are dealing with. Be extra careful, and never send money first.
- Moderators can see who is behind every post, and will act on reports.
Meeting people
- Meet in a public place the first time, and tell a friend where you are going.
- Do not share your bank details, passwords, tax file number or identity documents with someone you have just met online.
- Keep early conversations in the site's private Messages. Use the Report this conversation link if anyone pressures you, asks for money, or says something that worries you.
Discussion rules
- Be kind. No harassment, hate, threats or scams.
- No adult (18+) content. It is removed and the member is banned.
- Do not post other people's private details or photos without their permission.
Report a problem
Use the Report button on a post or message. If you think you have been scammed, contact your bank straight away and report it at scamwatch.gov.au. If you are in danger, call 000.
